It gets dark really quickly as you leave the bright lights of the marina with the town behind it. We had a following wind so opted for the genoa only for the first few hours. We were in darkness for about four hours after setting off at midnight before the dawn brought a bit of comfort. Lovely to see the sunrise over the sea, Karen managed to catch a couple of hours so I tuned in on the ipod and watched the day unfold. Coming into Belfast Lough we hit some horrible over falls which were made worse by the fact we were both so tired by this stage, so switch to plan b and change course which put an hour on the journey but made it a lot more comfortable – well we are supposed to be doing this for pleasure.
Bangor marina is a great place to visit and the team there are very helpful and we were so pleased to be berthed. Tip for the future, don’t work all week and then night sail having left work five hours earlier!!
